Nike to Donate Sales of Air Force One Songs

By LINDSAY E. SAMMON

Nike Inc. said on Monday that proceeds from the sale of the original Air Force One song titled “Classic (Better Than I’ve Ever Been),” will be donated to the Nike Youth Sport for Change Fund.

Specifically, the proceeds will benefit the Jackson Unit Boys & Girls Club of America and The Salvation Army Boy & Girls Club of America, both located in Baltimore. Of note, Baltimore is also home to three of the original Air Force One retailers.

The song, mixed by DJ Premier, features Kanye West, Rakim, KRS-One and Nas. It has been available on iTunes since February as part of the athletic company’s 25th anniversary celebration of the Air Force One basketball shoe.

Another version of the song, produced by Rick Rubin is also available on iTunes. According to Nike, the two tracks have been downloaded more than 85,000 times since their releases.
